Jill Magid

Jill Magid was born in 1973 in Bridgeport, Connecticut. She cross-examines the frontiers between art and life, while underlining the absurd relation we entertain with institutions. Prompted by personal experience, the artist shows a strong interest in the relation between intimacy and power, and more precisely, in the existential condition of the individual inserted in the public sphere. She thus explores the emotional, philosophical and judicial tensions that bond us to the power of the institution. To do so, she stages in her works the dynamic connection, often based on seduction, between people and diverse bodies such as the army, the police or the secret service. Revealing the emotional charges generated by the links between the individual and structures of authority, her works often take the shape of a love parable, outlandish and odd. She lives and works in Brooklyn, New York.
