Jill Magid

Jill Magid, née en 1973 à Bridgeport, Connecticut, USA, questionne les frontières entre l'art et la vie en soulignant l’absurdité de notre rapport aux institutions.

Inspirée par son expérience personnelle, l’artiste s’intéresse en particulier à la relation entre l’intime et le pouvoir, et plus particulièrement la condition existentielle de l’individu fondu dans la sphère publique. Elle explore ainsi les tensions émotionnelles, philosophiques et juridiques qui nous lient au pouvoir institutionnel.

Pour ce faire, elle met en scène les rapports fondés sur la dynamique de séduction avec diverses organisations telles que l’armée, la police ou les services secrets, qu’elle implique dans ses projets. Ses œuvres qui révèlent les charges émotionnelles générées par ces relations entre individus et structures d’autorité, prennent souvent la forme de la parabole amoureuse, insolite et saugrenue.

Elle vit et travaille à Brooklyn, New York.
